Looking for severe storms Thursday

Our focus is on Thursday, with a chance of strong to severe storms.

For Wednesday, expect plenty of sunshine, a light breeze, and a rather pleasant summer day. High temperatures will be mainly in the mid-80s.

Mostly clear overnight, with temperatures mainly in the mid-50s to low 60s early Thursday.

For Thursday, the moisture stream starts to feedback in from the Gulf of Mexico. A deep trough of low pressure and associated cold front move through the area during the afternoon and evening.

A chance of strong to severe storms will start in areas West of Billings during the afternoon, and then spread from Billings to the East during the late afternoon and evening. Areas East of Billings have the best chance of damaging storms.

The biggest threats tomorrow afternoon will be from hail. Damaging winds are also possible. A few areas could see heavy rain and frequent lightning is possible with any thunderstorms.

Expect cooler than average temperatures through the weekend, with scattered showers and thunderstorms. However, it is much less likely storms will have damaging hail her winds during the weekend.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… Plenty of sunshine with a light East breeze. A high of about 84.

Wednesday night… Mostly clear with a light breeze. Near 60 for the low.

Thursday… Around 83 for the high. Mostly sunny early with increasing afternoon clouds. A chance of strong to severe thunderstorms by the afternoon and evening.
