Mixed precipitation will move through the area

A round of spring precipitation is moving in. That means almost anything goes.

For Thursday morning, a few mountain snow showers are most likely. Isolated areas of rain, snow, sleet, or even light freezing rain are possible for the lower elevations especially for Billings to the west.

By Thursday afternoon, it will become a dry day with highs ranging from upper 30s in the eastern plains, to the upper 40s around Billings, to some 50s in the mountain foothills west of Billings and through Northern Wyoming.

A system from the California coast will move in quickly Thursday night and Friday. Rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain will again develop, but this time it means business.

The bulls-eye for the highest precipitation is in Eastern Montana and Northern Wyoming in areas east and south of Billings.

Snow could be heavy at times. And with the additional threat of freezing rain, motorists should be very aware Friday. This weather will also be hard on young livestock.

Billings forecast:

Thursday…Isolated morning snow showers or even freezing rain possible. Otherwise, a clearing sky for the afternoon with a high near 48.

Thursday night…Mostly cloudy with a chance of an overnight snow shower. Low of about 29.

Friday…Morning snow, eventually switching to rain in the afternoon. Otherwise cloudy and around 40.
