An area of high pressure allows us to start with sunshine, and a bit of wind down the East mountain slopes. As the day goes on, cloud cover will increase the chance of mountain snow showers by this evening.

Afternoon highs will once again remain below average with most readings in the 30s. Overnight readings will be mainly in the teens first thing Friday.

As an upper low digs to the West of Montana, highs will warm to the upper 30s and low 40s. Friday looks to be the warmest day of the week overall.

A chance of rain and snow showers develops by Friday evening, again favoring mainly the mountains.

A fairly strong disturbance moves across the area Saturday morning. With increased moisture across the area, the chance of snow showers develops Saturday night through Sunday.

In general, and we are expecting 1 to 3 inches of new snow in areas North of Yellowstone River, and perhaps 3 to 6 inches in some areas South of the Yellowstone.

Billings forecast:

Thursday… Mostly sunny with a high near 38. Southwest wind 10 to 20 mph.

Thursday night… Partly cloudy with a low of about 18.

Friday… Partly sunny with increasing afternoon clouds. A slight chance of showers in the afternoon and evening. Around 40 for the high temperature.
