The weather for the week starts quiet enough. Tuesday night through Wednesday, there’s a good chance of rain switching to snow with colder air to follow.

As a trough of low pressure moves into the region Tuesday night, rain showers will start to develop across the region. A surge of cold air Tuesday night into Wednesday will change the rain to snow.

Accumulations of 2 to 4 inches will be common, with bands of 4 to 8 inches possible. The high elevations should receive 6 to 12 inches of snow.

In the short-term, high temperatures will stay mainly in the 40s for the lower elevations Monday and Tuesday. Lows will be mainly in the 20s. Expect a mix of clouds and sun with a Southwest breeze.

Winds will remain somewhat gusty around Livingston and Nye, with wind gusts of 40 to 50 mph.

Starting Wednesday, high temperatures will be mainly in the 20s to low 30s for the rest of the week. Friday may not make it out of the teens.

Another chance of scattered snow showers develops Thursday night through Friday with unsettled weather continuing into the weekend.

Billings forecast:

Monday… Partly to mostly cloudy with temperatures topping off around 42. Southwest winds 10 to 20 mph.

Monday night… Partly cloudy with a low of about 30.

Tuesday… Partly sunny with a high around 45. Clouds increase with a chance of evening rain showers.
