A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Beartooth foothills, northern Park County (Livingston), and northern Sweet Grass County (Big Timber) with 6 to 8 inches of snow expected.
The higher elevations of the Beartooth and Crazy Mountains look like a solid 8-10 inches, favoring the northwestern slopes.
Snow totals decrease farther east, with 3 to 4 inches for Billings and 1 to 2 inches across the eastern Plains.
Temperatures will drop throughout the day, with the teens during the afternoon. Expect single digit readings above and below zero by first thing Saturday.
A few lingering snow showers are possible early Saturday, breaks of sunshine for the afternoon. Highs will be mainly in the teens.
The risk of blowing snow with the pottery snow already on the ground is a real possibility through the day Saturday. Use caution on the roads!
Billings forecast:
Friday… 3 to 4 inches of new snow, with temperatures falling throughout the day. Northerly wind 5 to 15 miles an hour.
Friday night… Light snow likely, but tapering off overnight. A low of about 6°.
Saturday… A slight chance of a morning snow shower otherwise mostly cloudy early with more sun in the afternoon. Around 14 for the high temperature.
