A cold front moving across the area Wednesday will bring mountain snow showers and a rain-snow mix to the lower elevations through the morning.

Very gusty westerly winds will increase through the morning through the afternoon. Wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph are possible over much of the area, decreasing during the evening.

The strongest winds will be in the mountain foothills West of Billings, and also Southeast Montana and north-central Wyoming. High Wind Warnings are scheduled to be in effect for these areas until 8 PM Wednesday.

Temperatures will be mainly into the 40s Wednesday and drop to the 20s overnight. Clouds will decrease throughout the day.

A quieter weather picture for Thursday and Friday, with a mix of clouds and sun and highs mainly in the 40s to around 50. Overnight temperatures will stay in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… A chance of morning showers with decreasing afternoon clouds. A high near 48. Very gusty winds from midday through the afternoon at 15 to 35 mph. Gusts could reach as high as 50 mph.

Wednesday night… Mostly clear, with a low around 27.

Thursday… Sunny to mostly sunny with a high of about 47.
