Last chance at storms before hot and dry periods

Click here for 7 Day Forecast Another round of thunderstorms is expected Wednesday afternoon and evening. That is followed by a very warm and very dry outlook as we approach the holiday weekend.

As a series of disturbances move through the area Wednesday afternoon, it will create pockets of rain and thunderstorms. The greatest risk for strong to severe storms is South of Billings through northern Wyoming, much as we saw Tuesday.

Afternoon temperatures will be mainly into the 70s with a few low 80s. The lack of very warm afternoon temperatures will help to hold back the thunderstorm potential somewhat. The lack of strong lift in the atmosphere may reduce the risk of damaging storms.

A cold front will move through the area tonight, bringing somewhat cooler but more settled weather for Thursday. Highs will be mainly in the mid to lower 70s and mostly sunny Thursday afternoon.

The extended Outlook pushes the temperatures upward each afternoon through at least Monday when highs will likely reach the 90s.

Our first look at the forecast for the Fourth of July is very warm and dry, with a high in the mid to lower 90s.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… Generally mostly cloudy, with a high near 78. A 50% chance of afternoon and early evening showers and thunderstorms.

Wednesday night… A chance of an evening shower thunderstorm, and then mostly cloudy overnight. A low of around 56.

Thursday… Partly to mostly sunny with a slight risk of a late day shower or isolated thunderstorm. A little cooler at about 74 for the high temperature.
