The same storm system that brought heavy rain and strong to severe thunderstorms Monday night will continue to influence Tuesday’s weather. But it will be in a much different way.
As the upper low pushes across the region for today, colder air swings down from the North wrapping around the low. This will create areas of rain showers for the lower elevations and continued snow for the mountains. Snow levels will be at about 8000 feet and above.
Meantime, dry air will be pushed across the Eastern plains of Montana. Scattered isolated showers and thunderstorms could develop.
For areas from Billings to the West, highs will be mainly in the 60s with rain showers and high elevation snow.
For areas East of Billings, expect a mix of clouds and sun Tuesday with highs mainly in the 70s.
As the upper low lifts up and out of the region Wednesday, expect highs mainly in the 70s but increasing winds.
Billings forecast:
Tuesday… Increasing clouds with a high near 67. A chance of an afternoon shower or isolated thunderstorms.
Tuesday night… A chance of a shower thunderstorm during the evening, otherwise mostly cloudy. Low of about 51.
Wednesday… Mostly sunny with a high near 76. A West wind 15 to 25 mph.
