Thursday afternoon looks mainly dry outside of the mountains and foothills as lower level dry air continues to work into the region. High temperatures will range between the mid-40s and the upper 50s, with the warmer readings North and East of Billings.

The same upper low that brought the showers in the area will work into Southeast Montana Friday. That will bring a renewed chance of showers but precipitation looks to stay light.

Readings will move into the 50s to low 60s on Friday, and well into the 60s on Saturday and Sunday. A few stray showers return of the area the first part of next week.

Billings picked up just over an inch of precipitation at the airport from Wednesday’s storm system. Livingston set a new record at 2.4 inches of precipitation, easily eclipsing the 1978 record of 0.87 inches for May 17.

The snowfall and rain across the mountains and foothills contained about 2 to 3.5 inches of water in the past 24 hours. As it melts through Thursday and Friday, it will work its way into the small streams and creeks, causing significant rises.

Expect some minor flooding especially into the mountain foothills Thursday and Friday. Flood Advisories are in effect for the affected areas.

Most larger rivers have plenty of room to absorb the runoff. But if you live, work, or recreate around waterways, be mindful of rising levels.

Thursday…The chance of rain will decrease throughout the day. Clouds will also decrease. About 54 for a high. Light NE wind.

Thursday night…Mostly cloudy with a low of about 38.

Friday…Partly sunny, and in the neighborhood of 61 for the warmest reading. Light breeze.
