A warm day for February isn't all good

Click here for 7 Day ForecastTemperatures will be very mild the next couple of days, and may even challenge some record highs. But, there are a couple of downsides.

Strong winds will continue to blow down the slopes of the Rockies Wednesday, with gusts around Livingston up to about 60 miles an hour possible for Wednesday, Wednesday night, and Thursday. Billings will likely see gusts to about 40 mph. The winds will be lighter East of Billings.

There is also still considerable amount of snow and ice in areas from Billings to the East. Much of this will melt over the next couple of days, and with frozen ground, it could lead to some ice jams. Lower line roads around creeks, culverts, and coulees could be covered with water.

Otherwise, expect plenty of sunshine in above average temperatures. Most readings will be in the 50s Wednesday and Thursday afternoons. Even some low 60s are possible.

The record high temperature for Billings for Wednesday is 62°. Miles City has a record high 55, and Sheridan, Wyoming would have to make it all away to 63 to tie Wednesday’s record high. Livingston may have the best chance of breaking daily record high of 58° on Wednesday.

Billings forecast:

Wednesday… Sunny, with a high near 59. West winds 15 to 30 miles an hour with gusts to 40 possible.

Wednesday night… Mostly clear, with a low near 36. Gusty West winds continue to blow.

Thursday… Mostly sunny, and a high near 58. Winds will be gusty in the morning and decrease somewhat in the afternoon.
