Snow showers will taper off through Tuesday morning. After a short break this afternoon, another round of snow begins to move in areas to the South and West of Billings.

Cold air remains across the region today, with the highs only into the teens in most locations.

Pacific moisture will skim over the top of the cold air tonight, creating areas of snow showers by this evening and overnight. Areas West of a line from Roundup, Billings, extending Southeast toward Sheridan, Wyoming will be most affected.

Expect to see 2 to 5 inches across the plains, and the West facing mountain foothills could see 4 to 6 inches of new powdery snow.

Cold temperatures early Wednesday will be just above and below zero, and only the teens and single digits for the highs Wednesday.

A quick warm-up is in store on Thursday and Friday, with highs moving up to the 40s. Wind gusts around Livingston and Big Timber could hit 70 mph Thursday night.

Billings forecast:

Tuesday… Mostly cloudy, with scattered light snow showers. About 15 for the highs with a light breeze.

Tuesday night… Snow likely, especially during the evening. About 2 to 4 inches of accumulation. Otherwise, cloudy with a low near 2.

Wednesday… Mostly cloudy and cold, with a high in the neighborhood of 14. A chance of some light snow, especially in the morning.
