Wind and cold now, snow later

Click for 7 Day ForecastIn the short-term, were still dealing with frigid cold temperatures and wind chill values. By the end of the weekend, our attention will turn to new snowfall.

Highs today again will be mainly in the single digits with a mix of clouds and sun. But, winds will increase aggravating wind chill values to feel like 15 to 30 below at times.

Around Billings, a Southwest wind could blow 15 to 25 mph today tonight and tomorrow. Closer to Livingston, the gusts could be closer to 45 mph. This will cause areas of blowing snow

Temperatures will gradually warm under a week high-pressure Ridge this weekend. But, a Pacific trough will bring a renewed chance of snow showers Sunday and Monday.

Be careful for the effects of the cold weather today, and limit outdoor activities. Sunday and Monday brings renewed travel hazards with areas of snow, blowing snow, and drifts.

Billings forecast:

Thursday… Mostly sunny, and cold. A high near 11. Wind chill values as low as -20 to -30. Southwest wind 15 to 25 mph. Areas of blowing snow.

Thursday night… Mostly cloudy with continued areas of blowing snow. Low of about 1.

Friday… Partly sunny, and around 18 for the high temperature. Wind chill values as low as -20 with a breezy Southwest wind.
