Isolated severe storms pop up in hot/dry conditions

Severe thunderstorms are possible today, especially in areas East of Billings. Wildfire concerns are higher in southern Montana northern Wyoming.

High temperatures today will be close to seasonal averages, topping in the 80s to low 90s. Clouds will increase in the afternoon, with the threat of thunderstorms popping up very hit-and-miss through the evening.

Damaging hail and gusty winds are possible with evening storms, with isolated cases of heavy rain. The highest risk areas will be from a line from around Hysham to Broadus extending eastward.

Drier air surging into northern Wyoming in extreme southern Montana. A Red Flag Warning for higher wildfire risk is into effect for northern Wyoming today.

Billings forecast:

Today… Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 91. Isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms.

Tonight… Isolated storms during the evening, otherwise partly cloudy with a low of about 60.

Wednesday… Mostly sunny with isolated afternoon and evening storms. Cooler, with a high of around 83.
