Risk of storms is low, but impacts could be high
0 0

There is increased moisture in the atmosphere, and fairly good instability. A weak upper-level disturbance moves across the area this afternoon and evening, potentially triggering thunderstorms with a slight risk of severe storms.

For the most part, it will be a mostly sunny day with temperatures above average for this time of the year. Highs will be mainly 85 to 95, with a light wind.

The highest chance of thunderstorms will be in extreme southeastern Montana extending into northern Wyoming this evening. Overall, there is only about a 20 to 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms for this evening and again tomorrow. The cause for concern is that the storms that do form have the potential to develop damaging winds and hail.

A week cold front moving through the area tonight will hold temperatures down a few degrees tomorrow afternoon.

Billings forecast:

Today… Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 93. A light easterly wind. 20% chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.

Tonight… Isolated evening showers and thunderstorms. Otherwise, partly cloudy with a low around 60.

Wednesday… Mostly sunny, and about 89 for a high. Scattered showers and thunderstorms by the evening.
