Slight risk of severe storms today should be taken seriously
0 0

Severe thunderstorms could develop for this afternoon, and potentially at hours earlier a little earlier in the afternoon than what we typically expect. The number of thunderstorms that develop will be small, but the impacts could be high. Watch the sky for the development of storms that could produce damaging winds or large hail.

The other area of concern for today is the heat. Billings will likely stay below the record high of 95°, but areas East of Billings could hit 95 to around 100 this afternoon. Expect increasing clouds and periods of wind as a cold front moves through the area.

Check weather conditions in the mid afternoon for the development of storms. Limit your exposure to the afternoon sun. Plan activities keeping in mind the potential for severe weather, and no where your nearest save shelter might be.

Billings forecast:

Today… Mostly sunny, and hot the high near 91. Winds will increase in the afternoon with the potential of scattered to isolated severe storms for the afternoon and early evening.

Tonight… A chance of thunderstorms before midnight. The storms could contain strong winds or larger hail. A low near 58.

Friday… Mostly sunny and hot, with a high approaching 93. A slight chance of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
