Secretary of State Linda McCulloch to Raise Awareness of Primary Election by Casting an Absentee Ballot on May 9th

To raise awareness about the importance of voting in Montana’s upcoming Primary election, Secretary of State and Chief Elections Officer Linda McCulloch checked her voter registration status, applied for an absentee ballot, and voted at the Lewis and Clark County election office 9:00 a.m. on Monday, May 9th.

May 9th is the close of regular voter registration for Montana’s Primary election, which will be held on Tuesday, June 7th.

“When doors close, we open a few windows,” Secretary McCulloch said. “Montana’s elections depend on Montanans, and there are laws in place to ensure that every      qualified voter has ample opportunity to cast a ballot. If you miss the deadlines this week, you still have options to register and to vote.”

Electors who miss the regular registration deadline can register to vote during Montana’s late registration period, which runs from Tuesday, May 9th  starting at 8:00 a.m. through the close of polls (8:00 p.m.) on Election Day, June 7th  (late registration is temporarily closed at noon on the day before Election Day, reopening on Election Day). Late registration must be done in person at the county election office, or at the location designated by the county Election Administrator, including satellite offices on some American Indian reservations.

Voters on the Absentee List automatically receive an absentee ballot for every election in which they are eligible to vote. To remain on the list, voters must complete and return the Address Confirmation Card, which counties mail out in January of every even year.

Voters who are not on the list, but who would like to receive an absentee ballot for the Primary election, can still sign up to be on the absentee list, or can  turn in an application to the county election office before noon, on June 6th  (the day before the election). Applications are available on the Secretary of State’s website atsos.mt.gov.

You can check your voter registration status, and see if you are on the Absentee List using the Secretary of State’s online elections tool, “My Voter Page” https://app.mt.gov/voterinfo/. Voters can also view a precinct-specific sample ballot for the June 7th  Primary, find the location of their polling place, and track the status of their absentee ballot once one has been issued.
