Some changes are in store for the Billings Logan International Airport. The go-ahead was given to begin the proposal process for updates to the airport.
Billings City Administrator Tina Volek said it's needed because of the size of the airplanes coming in and the age of the facility. Volek said there are several options they'll review.
The proposed cost for the updates would be between $40-$55 million. Some short-term renovations could take place quickly, with long-term updates taking place in phases over the next two to three years. Volek said over the past five years the city has put $44 million into the airport for different projects, like the new runway.
"The last major overhaul of the airport occurred in the 1990s. We're just finishing paying off the bonds for that and that gives us both the financial window and the timing window to get this work done," Volek said.
Volek said they're also working with the business community to help them as they look to attract more airlines. She said the cost of the renovations will be paid for by tax revenue bonds. Those will be paid for through fees assessed to users of the airport and businesses at the airport. (KULR 8 )
