Sean Alexander HIIT Cardio & Why It Works

Many people often ask what the most effective ways to burn fat are, so I’m here to shed some light on that issue. Over the past four years of being immersed in the world of fitness I have inquired with many top-level athletes about the best methods to burn calories, and one of, if not the most common answer I’ve received has been to try “HIIT” cardio. HIIT cardio stands for “High Intensity Interval Training”, and what separates it from the standard 30 minutes on a treadmill is the interval part of the equation. As opposed to maintaining a constant heart rate of ~135 bpm (beats per minute), HIIT is a way to constantly keep your heart rate bouncing back and forth from a super fast heart rate to a slower, more relaxed pace . An example of HIIT would be to hop on the recumbent bike and to pace yourself at 60 rpm (rotations per minute) for 30 seconds, and then kick the speed up to over 100 rpm for 15 seconds, immediately falling back into the 60rpm range for the following 30 seconds. The reason that this is much more effective is because your body and heart are constantly having to work harder to continue changing paces rather than letting yourself fall into a “speed groove”, which can end up in less calories burnt and an overall less effective workout. So try to incorporate some HIIT training in your next workout and let us know how you like it and how it works for you!
